Besides justice, the Goat, Ram or Sheep is associated with good crops, particularly China's staple food, rice. In the city once known as Canton they have a legend that long ago when the people there were starving, five Immortals robed in the five mystical colours flew down from heaven on the backs of rams. Each carried a seedling of rice that they gave to humans, promising that if they took care of them they would never know hunger again.

And so it has proved because to this day the temperate climate of Guangdong Province ensures up to three rice crops a year and its capital Canton, now called Guangzhou , is often nicknamed the City of the Five Rams.
